Core Humanities Essay Example For Students

Core Humanities Essay Macbeth PaperDecember 14, 1998People have a hard time getting what they want; in fact, the things they want can be incompatible with each other. The attempt to reach one of these goals can simultaneously hurt the other. In William Shakespeares Macbeth, the protagonist, Macbeth, is lured to murder the king, Duncan, by the desire for power, an appetite whetted by witchs prophecies and his wifes encouragement. But when he reaches the kingship, he finds himself insecure. He attempts to remove threats that decrease his security, including his companion Banquo and his son Fleance, who is prophesied to be king. His lords grow angry and revolt successfully, after witches lure Macbeth into a false sense of security by further foretelling. In Macbeth, we see that, despite appearances of paradox, mans goals of comfort and power are forever opposed in increment, though the two may decline together. The power from knowledge causes discomfort. It has often been said ignorance is bliss. After Macb eth is promised the throne, Banquo asks why Macbeth is less than Valles 2ecstatic. Good sir, why do you start, and seem to fear things that do sound so fair? (Act I. Scene iii. Lines 51-53) Macbeths new knowledge makes him uncomfortable, as he realizes the implications. His first thoughts considering murdering Duncan appear, and he is scared. After he commits the murder, Macbeth says, To know my deed, twere best not know myself (Act II. Scene ii. Lines 76-77). Knowing that has committed such a vile act makes him uncomfortable. It will be difficult to act innocent and to deal with his guilt. When he later decides to murder Banquo and Fleance, he tells his wife, Be innocent of the knowledge, dearest chuck, till thou applaud the deed (Act III. Scene ii. Lines 46-47). Hecate sets Macbeth up for his final fall, explaining her strategy, As by the strength of their illusionShall draw him on to his confusion. He shall spurn fate, scorn death, and bear His hopes bove wisdom, grace, and fear. And you all know security Is mortals chiefest enemy. (Act III. Scene V. Lines 28-33)The security provided by the second set of predictions is only fleeting. Feeling there is no threat to his power, Macbeth acts wildly, bringing his downfall and loss of both Valles 3comfort and security. The problem with knowledge was that it was power resulting in a decline in comfort. Those most comfortable have the least power. The enjoyment of security precludes strength. The Porter delivers an ironic speech on the evils of drink, explaining, Lechery, sir, it provokes and unprovokes: it provokes the desire, but it takes away the performance: therefore much drink may be said to be an equivocator with lechery: it makes him, and it mars him; it sets him on, and it takes him off; it persuades him and disheartens him; makes him stand to and not stand to; in conclusion, equivocates him in a sleep, and giving him the lie, leaves him. (Act II. Scene iii. Lines 32-40) While drink may cause comfort, its other effects contradict this. It takes away the power, the performance. This recalls the guards, comfortably asleep but not standing guard, the latter their condemnation, as they are said to stand and kill the king and then stop standing to. After the murder, Duncans sons Malcolm and Donalbain decide to forgo the power of the kingship. Says Donalbain, Where we are theres daggers in mens smiles; the near in blood, the nearer bloody (Act II. Scene iii. Lines 146-149). He Valles 4realizes that his father was murdered because of the position he was in. It would be much safer to not be king, despite the loss in power, because the threats are too great. Power serves as both a blessing and a curse. Gaining power causes discomfort. When trying to gain power, hoping to increase their pleasure, people find themselves wracked with guilt and paranoia. Macbeth sees how lucky the dead and powerless Duncan really is when he comments In restless ecstasy. Duncan is in his grave; After lifes fitful fever he sleeps well. Treason has done his worst; nor steel, nor poison, Malice domestic, foreign levy, nothing, Can touch him further. (Act III. Scene ii. Lines 22-27)Duncan has no power but faces no threats either. He is much safer than Macbeth, who lives in fear of losing the throne. As he observed, To be thus is nothing, but to be safely thus (Act III. Scene i. Lines 48-49). His power as king wasnt really as great as he though it would be, and his power is really for nothing because he feels so threatened. The same idea is found again when his wife says Valles 5Noughts had, alls spent,Where our desire is got without content. Tis safer to be that which we destroy than by destruction dwell in doubtful joy. (Act III. Scene ii. Lines 5-8)Everything they had done to gain the power they desired just led to greater discomfort, as they found the dead were much happier than they. Macbeth echoes her thoughts , saying Better be with the dead, Whom we, to gain our peace, have sent to peace, Than on the torture of the mind to lieIn restless ecstasy. (Act III. Scene ii. Lines 19-22)After the murder, Lady Macbeth is troubled by feelings of guilt, making her sleep fitful and uncomfortable. She says Out, damned spot! Out, I say! One- two -why then tis time to dot. Hell is murky. Fie, my lord, fie! A soldier, and afeard? What need we fear who knows it, when none can call our power to account? Yet who would have thought the old man to have had so much blood in him? (Act V. Scene i. Lines 29-45) Lady Macbeth is suffering from an illness of her own cause. The power brought with it much suffering and trouble. Valles 6 Though people seek both potency and pleasant security, the two are in conflict. The power of knowledge and the pursuit of power lead to a decline in comfort, and those without power find the most comfort. Macbeth and his wife find power to be troublesome, with those they killed even e njoying a more pleasant life. Like trying to measure two factors with precision, trying to reach both goals to a high degree is impossible. At the same time, the two are able to decline together. A balance needs to be found between complacent security and dangerous pursuits of power.

The relation between nature and men Essays - Civil Disobedience

The relation between nature and men Relation Between Nature and Men Nature is an eternal and essential theme in American literature. It gains its peak in Romantic period when the industry begins to spring up like mushroom and the environment is contaminated gradually. Henry David Thoreau is one of the most important prose writers of the 19th century in United States. As a representative of transcendentalism in that period, he expresses his views of nature mainly in Walden which provides one of the most passionate, affecting and philosophical evocations of the value of living simply and closing to nature. In 1845, Thoreau began his two-year residence at Walden Pond, putting the theory of transcendentalism and Emersons thoughts into practice. During that period of time Thoreaus sensitive harmony with all of nature was extraordinary. In his opinion, man is part of nature and man can co-exist with nature harmoniously. Today, he is regarded as one of major interpreters of nature as well as American environmental saint in American literary history. In the history of American literature, Thoreau encounters many different views of criticism. On his stage, he is not considered as a professional naturalist and his masterpiece Walden is not universally accepted and appreciated. But with the severity of environmental crisis and the rise of environmental movements, Thoreaus philosophy on nature and simple life embarks on drawing the publics attention. By discussing and analyzing his life background and Walden, it is clear to find his views of nature embodied and interpreted in Walden. His ideas about nature not only predict the arrival of environment crisis, but also indicate the direction which people should take in the future. All in all, Thoreau has left a great legacy to the world, pointing out some valuable implications for man. Therefore, it is necessary for man to positively take part in the army of environmental protection and courageously defend our mother like Thoreau because it is an effective way to protect and save our mother, the Earth. It is universally held that man is the ruler of nature. As a pure defender of nature, Thoreau objects it and gives the priority to the whole nature. In Thoreaus philosophy of nature, one prominent aspect is his belief that man is a part of nature who equals with nature. Returning to nature, namely, living a simple life is a popular slogan in Romantic period. Different from other transcendentalists, Thoreau goes so deep into nature that he becomes a naturalist. With his passion for nature, Thoreau, as a nature observer, begins to live in Walden Pond for more than two years. At Walden Pond, Thoreau leads a life free of materialistic pursuits, reduces his material requirements to the minimum and tries to be self-sufficient in everything. Such a practice convincingly calls upon man to live a simple life in nature. From Thoreaus perspective, if man wants to pursue the high quality and healthy life, he should return to nature and lead a simple life. While I enjoy the friendship of the seasons I trust that nothing can make life a burden to me. He also thinks that man who has inherited farms, houses, barns cattle, and farming tools is a fools life. Furthermore, human beings are born with the relationship with naturethey must eat, drink, and decompose within a natural environment. Nature is a permanent home. These thoughts can be found frequently in Walden. With the development of the industrial revolution and the emergence of modern science, mans desire for resources from nature increases rapidly. As man is an essential part of the nature, he should respect the nature and keep a harmonious relationship with nature. Viewed from every aspect, Thoreaus nature is a harmonious one. It is easy to see his impressive descriptions of nature in Walden such as some harmonious pictures. In the first days of September, when he sees two or three small leaves turned scarlet across the Pond, beneath where the white stems of three aspens diverged at the point of a promontory, next to water, nature itself appears to Thoreau to be a gallery. He advocates a perfect harmonious relationship with his Walden neighbors, the animals and plants. Through his own experiences, Thoreau expresses his confidence that man

Free Essays on Suitors, Death Awaits Them

Suitors, Death Awaits Them The Odyssey is about one man’s epic struggle to return to his homeland to deal out a fair death to the suitors who have invaded his son, wife, great hall, and homestead. There are many reasons as to why Odysseus waits so long to kill the suitors, however here we will discuss the few main points, which Homer makes relevant throughout the whole story. Homer shows us that one of Odysseus’s few, but key flaws is the reason to why he postpones the suitors death. Odysseus has a problem with revealing his identity too early, which you will see causes him problems and delays his journey home throughout the story. Also, it will be proven that it is very important to Odysseus’s morality to know if his wife was faithful, what maids and servants were loyal, and which suitors if any did not attend in the unlawful doings to Odysseus and his home. Last but not least, Odysseus also postpones the suitors’ deaths so he can find their weaknesses and their flaws to put them to death by this very meaningful way. Besides the obvious fact of the right place and the right time to clear out the suitors, the preceding claims will show you why Odysseus chooses to wait until everything is perfect for killing the suitors. The first reason that is probably the most important and evident throughout the book is Odysseus’s problem with revealing his identity too early. Patient Surveys Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Patient Surveys - Essay Example Patents also link their preferred outcomes to the quality of care. According to Rosswurm and Larrabee, they initiated a change model that aims at guiding the nurses through various systematic processes for the change to evidence based practices. This model is important for nurses with an aim of facilitating change since the model recognizes the transformation of research into practice (Rosswurm and Larrabee, 1999). However, it requires the use of standardized nomenclature. The nurses require skills and resources that usually appraise and diffuse useful evidence in the practice. Patient’s outcomes usually reflect discipline and accountabilities. At this phase of the model, it focuses on the evidence that supports the use of warning in scoring systems and the communication triggers to guide the nurses in critical decision-making process (Rosswurm and Larrabee, 1999). According to this case, it is important to, effectively assess the situation whereby nurses should examine the importance of surveys on the improve the patient care. This should rely on the fact that patients have an idea on healthcare programs and also ensure that they do not give responses based on their personal preferences. The process of standardized nursing classification system and nomenclature are expected to determine the problem in the survey. In this case, when the survey is conducted in an accurate manner, the patient’s survey can provide health care organization with information (Rosswurm and Larrabee, 1999). This also focuses on what patients think about the attention they are given at health institutions. It is evident that the desired outcomes of healthcare recognition, focus on early signs and alteration of health care deterioration by the patients. At this phase, the organized strategy guides the nursing literature, and the team read and critically reviewed, and the evidence is weighed in conjunction to the clinical researches (Rosswurm and Larrabee,

Media Relations Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words - 8

Media Relations - Assignment Example There are several significant values that are attached to the Ramadan festivities in the Islam calendar, and being the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, Muslims are mostly expected to fast from dawn till sunset for about 29 or 30 days. Given that the Islamic calendar is determined by the lunar cycle including the Ramadan that comes after the ninth month, with the glimpsing of the new moon (Murray, 2012). Taken from the Arabic word ar-ramad implying dryness or scotching heat, Ramadan signifies a mandatory fasting season for the adult Muslims in which in the entire ‘blessed month’ they are required to abstain from foods, drinks and other physical needs. Ramadan is intended to be a time for cleansing the soul, focusing attention on God and enthusiastic self-sacrifice. Eating begins after sunset, taking into consideration the aspect of cleansing the soul for God. Hence, Ramadan can be perceived as a period when Muslims are educated on matters of spirituality, patience and humility (Murray, 2012). Persons are required not to engage in defiling activities that may hinder their purity. In other aspects Muslims are required to restrain their bodies, particularly the tongue from aspects of gossip and backbiting. Immediately after Ramadan, follows the celebrations for the holiday of Eid-ul-Fitr. Non-Muslims should perceive this month as a highlighting of the Muslim brotherhood customs, and brings a special feeling of closeness (Murray, 2012). â€Å"The philosophy of fasting calls upon us to know ourselves, to master ourselves, and to discipline ourselves the better to free ourselves. To fast is to identify our dependencies, and free ourselves from them.†- Tariq

Investigation on Rates of a Reaction Essay Example for Free

Investigation on Rates of a Reaction Essay We are changing the concentration of the acid solution to see which has a quicker reaction with the metal. To keep it a fair test I will be keeping the following constant:    The length of the magnesium   The volume of the acid The temperature of the solution and the laboratory in which we carry out the experiment I will not be using a catalyst Prediction Based on my scientific knowledge I predict that as the number moles in a solution (unit at which we measure concentration) increases the speed at which the reaction occurs will also therefore the higher the concentration the faster the reaction takes place. In this view by doubling the concentration theoretically the time taken should half. Apparatus Here is a list of equipment that I will be using during this experiment:    25 x test tubes 5 x test tube racks   500 ml x hydrochloric acid (HCl)   160 ml x distilled water   25 cm x magnesium ribbon (mg) 1 x medium beaker   1 x bung   1 x measuring cylinder   1 x scissors   1 x stop watch   1 x pencil, pen (to label the test tubes) and table for results Method Here is an account of how I will be doing the actual experiment (based on the pilot experiment). Collect the test tubes and place them in the racks, cut magnesium ribbon and collect the acid and distilled water, measure out the following:    20 ml of acid (2 moles of acid)   17. 5 ml of acid and 2. 5 ml of D. water (1. 75 moles )   15 ml of acid and 5 ml of D. water (1. 5 moles )   10 ml of acid and 10 ml of D. water (1. 0 moles ) 5 ml of acid and 15 ml of D. water (0. 5 moles ) Prepare each 5 times and pour into test tubes Use one rack per concentration.   Once each is measured place a bung in the starting test tube and shake vigorously to thoroughly mix the solution. Place one piece of magnesium ribbon into the solution and start the stop clock. Stop the clock once the solution has completely finished reacting (no bubbles are being produced) with the magnesium and record.   Repeat this for all 25 test tubes Calculate the average for each set of results Plot this on a graph NB. D. stands for distilled. In order to ensure that this experiment is safe I will be doing the following: Any bags must be placed securely under the desk.   The experiment must be performed in the centre of the table.   I will only add acid to water. We will be wearing safety goggles at all times. Towels and running water will be nearby in case of any acid spills. Ms Pinion will be supervising all of the experiments. Below shows a diagram whilst the experiment is being performed: Results Concentration (moles) Time for try 1 (secs) Time for try 2 (secs) Time for try 3 (secs) Time for try 4 (secs) Time for try 5 (secs) Average time (secs) 0 Analysis. Looking at the graph I can see that as the concentration increases the time taken for the reaction to occur decreases therefore the rate of reaction increases. As I said in my scientific knowledge this occurs because as the concentration increases obviously the number of particles within the solution also increases. With more particles the chances that the HCl molecules will collide with the magnesium molecules and have enough activation energy increases and so the rate of reaction will increase. You could also read the graph another way, as the time taken for the reaction to occur increases the concentration decreases. The reason behind this is that with fewer molecules of HCl in a weaker acid the fewer the chances that the particles will collide with the magnesium molecules and so the rate of reaction decreases. Between the concentrations 0. 5 moles and 1. 0 mole the line was quite steep; there was a rapid decrease in the time taken for the reaction to complete. A possible reason for this could be that 1. 0 moles is double 0. 5 moles and so because there is double the amount of molecules theoretically the time taken at 1 mole should be half of that taken at 0. 5 moles. My prediction was correct because as the concentration increased the time taken for the reaction to occur decreased therefore resulting in a higher rate of reaction. Evaluation Looking at my results I think that they are quite accurate, the graph is a smooth curve joining 4 out of the 5 points, I received one anomalous result. This was for 1. 5 moles, the result I got was 48 seconds when it should have been 32 seconds. A possible reason for the anomaly could be from the following:-   Too little acid was placed in the solution and so the concentration could have been less than originally expected. Human reaction time is always delayed and so the reaction may have stopped seconds earlier.   The equipment I used may not have been accurate enough, for example I used a measuring cylinder when I could have used a burette to measure the acid and the water.   I judged whether the reaction had finished by looking when it had stopped bubbling; obviously this can be difficult to keep accurate as it is not always easy to tell, in a slow reaction for example bubbles can be produced very slowly, if there is a large gap in time when no bubbles are produced I could assume that the reaction had stopped when it hadnt making the reaction unfair. To over come this, instead I could measure the amount of hydrogen produced in a certain amount of time; to do this I would need a gas syringe. I believe that I repeated my results a suitable amount of times to get a reliable average and I think that my range of results was enough to complete the investigation with suitable proof. Yet based on the information above I could say that the data may not be sufficiently accurate to support a conclusion, despite the fact that my results were as I had expected the question arises that if my results had have been more precise would my results have been different. My result didnt follow a specific pattern but they did decrease as I increased the concentration. If I were to develop this investigation further I would almost certainly repeat the experiment taking into account the information above (possible reasons for the anomalie), by doing this I will be able to establish the whether or not the investigation that I performed this time was inaccurate. If I were to explore other areas of this topic I would look at different metals and how they affect the rat of a reaction, different acids and see what effect they have and I would possibly look into one of the aspects of my scientific knowledge.

Plagiarism and the Internet :: Cheating Education Essays

Plagiarism and the Internet The consequences of plagiarism are both legal and academic. Plagiarism has been a concern in America since the founding fathers wrote the Constitution empowering the Legislative branch to protect intellectual and creative works. Today plagiarism can be easily accomplished due to the World Wide Web. If people violate copyright laws, they are subject to fines and imprisonment. When people choose to plagiarize, they are restricting their level of academic learning. The people who have done the research and posted it on the web will not receive the credit that they deserve. To plagiarize is â€Å"to take ideas or writings from another and pass them off as one’s own† (Webster’s New World Dictionary). It is extremely easy to access information on the World Wide Web. The proliferation of computers and printers in libraries, schools, and homes has enabled voluminous information to be accessible to all. This access has tempted some people to use othersâ⠂¬â„¢ writings as their own. Many students today find it easy to plagiarize in order to fill up pages, and hand a paper in on time. â€Å"A national survey published in Education Week found that 54% of students admitted to plagiarizing from the Internet† (â€Å"Plagiarism.org†). While this may seem like a good idea to some, the grade is not worth the consequences. When students plagiarize, they no longer read or sort the material; they are simply printing out someone else’s work. Those students are basically going through the motions of learning. Another danger of plagiarizing is that you may be using false information from the Web. Students who thoroughly research and sort the information are helping themselves. Evaluating the information and drawing their own conclusions improves the student academically and intellectually. Persons are usually penalized for plagiarism in their academic setting. In most universities a person will receive an F for the class without refund. Sometimes the person may face monetary fines and will be banned from extracurricular activities (â€Å"Plagiarism Q&A†). The College of New Jersey has little tolerance for those who plagiarize. If a student is caught plagiarizing, the faculty member will first decide whether or not the student’s violations were intentional.

Military Action

In my essay I will investigate the phenomenon of war, starting with its theory and definition, and going to its factors and the principles of its justification, and then finishing with its costs. In particular, I will point out the factors of a just war and support each of them with the necessary argumentation. Also, I will describe the factors that must be considered when military action is justified. And finally, I will mention direct and indirect costs of war. On the whole, the purpose of my essay is to explore on the concept of just war, using the terms: just war and the theory of just war and applying the concepts: concepts of sovereignty, state and nation. In order to provide a necessary scientific ground for my investigation, I will cite the information from reliable sources:   The Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy, Just War Theory† and the War on [T]error by Brian Moresonner, and others.First, according to Brian Moresonner, the roots of the term â€Å"Just War† go back to the Ancient times of Greeks and Sumerians and throughout the history of mankind the concept of just war has been developed [3], eventually growing up into a separate theory with its own principles and traditions. Moresonner in his â€Å"Just War Theory† and the War on [T]error (2004) points out that meaning of â€Å"Just War† â€Å"usually evolves when two or more similarly cultured peoples engage in combat over and over, as they share the same cultural values the two or more peoples set up conventions and perhaps even codes of what is acceptable in combat with each other.† [3].At the same time, The Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy   (2005) holds that the theory of just war â€Å"deals with the justification of how and why wars are fought.† [4]. This justification can be of two kinds: historical or theoretical. [4]. Theoretical justification deals with ethics of forms of warfare and war. [4]. On the other hand, the historical aspect just ifies rules and agreements applied in different wars across the ages. [4].Second, due to The Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy (2005), every just war is characterized with a list of factors, which generally should contain the following:–   Just cause, which means a cause of aggression can be considered just if it is a response to â€Å"a physical injury (e.g., a violation of territory), an insult (an aggression against national honor), a trade embargo (an aggression against economic activity), or even to a neighbor’s prosperity (a violation of social justice).† [4].–   Proclamation of war made by a proper authority. This factor implies the relationship between government and people, and is closely connected with the concepts of sovereignty, state and nation. In simpler and more general terms, government, as an organ of authority in a state, can declare war. [4].–    The possession of right intention. This factor forbids pursuing self-intere sts or aggrandizement for the sake of justice in the war. [4].–   A reasonable chance of success. This factor means that just cause and right intention are insufficient for a just war. The sides involved should calculate al the benefits and the costs of the campaign.–   Proportion in the means which are used. This factor requires that the goal of the war â€Å"must be proportional to the other principles of just cause.† [4]. For example, if a nation A invades a land which belonged to the nation B, nation B has right to take the land back. It will be a just cause. But at the same time, the counter attack of B should be proportionate and aim only at retrieving the land. [4].Third, in case when the factors of a military action are taken into consideration, those ones, which will justify it, should be based on the right of self-defense. This right was established by the UN Charter, Geneva and the Hague conventions and it states that a nation can start a war is i ts sovereignty is endangered.   So, to my mind, justifying factors should involve :1) Direct aggression against the country, or its allies, or those countries which are not able to protect themselves against a direct aggression. Thus, in the U.S.A. current ideology suggests self-defense as a right response to direct aggression. The main concerns of U.S. ideology here are freedom and safety of its citizens, and proportional intervention against the defender. For example, such war in self-defense against Japan was declared by American policy on December 7, 1941.2)   Indirect aggression against the country. However, this premise is the most difficult to evaluate. This difficulty comes out of ideological divergences of all the countries in the world. In other words, to understand how a particular country would be engaged in a war based on this premise, one must really know the ideology of this country. For instance, all the military actions of the U.S.A. initiated after the World Wa r II are considered to be based on U.S. response to indirect aggression. In this case the term ‘indirect aggression’ implies the controversy between capitalist and communist regimes and the opposition of American democracy to dictatorship of the former U.S.S.R. and its allies. Finally, each war has its direct and indirect costs. To my mind, direct costs of war concern its human casualties and money spent by the parts involved. For example, it was estimated that during World War II 20 million o soviet people died, and the cost of Iraqi war or America has already overreached 2 million dollars. On the other hand, there are indirect costs of wars, which generally can be seen in postwar period. Among such costs I can mention: refugees and immigration, poverty, collapse of economic and political systems, epidemics, pollution of environment, etc.Bibliography:1)   Carl Schmitt, The Concept of the Political, George Schwab, trans., Chicago: The University of Chicago Press, 1996, p. 26.2) Mark Osiel, Obeying Orders: Atrocity, Military Discipline, and the Law of War, New Brunswick: Transaction Publishers, 1999, p.100.3) Moseley Alexander. Original Sin - 1617 Words

Doctrines are used as a foundation to Christian beliefs. They serve to many churches as fundamentals in the direction their members chose to live their lives. It is important to understand the historical backgrounds of the doctrines that pertain to ones particular beliefs. I will be discussing this very information for the doctrine of original sin. The doctrine of original sin mostly pertains to the Roman Catholic religion. I will be covering when, where, and why the doctrine was originated. For I know that nothing good dwells within me, that is, in my flesh. I can will what is right, but I cannot do it. For I do not do the good I want, but t he evil I do not want is what I do. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I that do it, but sin which dwells within me. So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inmost self, but I see in my members another law at war with the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin which dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? (Romans 7:15-24) The solution to this problem is stated by Paul in these terms: For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do: sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the just requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. (Romans 8:3-4) Though the New Testament doctrine of original sin is most clearly expressed by Paul, it is also implicit in the teachings of Jesus: for example in such words as: And Jesus said to him, Why do you call me good?
